Improving concrete performance with delayed PCE addition

Among modern admixtures, polycarboxylate ether superplasticisers play a vital role in producing high-strength, durable and highly workable concrete. However, the effectiveness of PCE can be reduced when added simultaneously with mixing water due to early adsorption on hydration products. This study investigates the influence of delayed addition of these superplasticisers on the fresh and hardened properties of M40 concrete produced with OPC-43 and OPC-53 cement. The research evaluates how varying the timing of admixture addition affects workability, slump retention and compressive strength, with the aim of identifying a practical approach to optimise concrete performance and resource efficiency.
